The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and its Secretary-General, Yusuf Adeniyi, are at loggerheads over claims of his suspension for alleged misconduct.
In a statement on Thursday, RTEAN’s Deputy National President (Administration), Amb. Muhammad Bishara announced Adeniyi’s suspension, citing a resolution reached at an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Wednesday, August 13, at the association’s National Secretariat.
Bishara said a seven-member investigative committee, chaired by Dr. Samuel Agbede with Mr. Adamu Jalaluddeen as secretary, had been set up to probe the matter and submit its report within two months.
However, Adeniyi dismissed the suspension claim, insisting he remains the legitimate Secretary-General of RTEAN.

“I was not suspended from the office as National Secretary-General. I remain the National Secretary-General of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria,” he said in a text message to Daily Trust.
“Those who claimed that I was suspended have no locus standi.”
He further argued that those behind the decision lacked the authority, citing a recent Court of Appeal judgment delivered on July 29, 2025, which ruled that the National Industrial Court had no jurisdiction to affirm Musa Mohammed’s leadership of the association.
