In Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), much has been done in this regard since Senator Bala Mohammed took office as FCT Minister in 2010.  Unlike many of his predecessors, Mohammed has demonstrated a commitment to adhering to the rule of law on almost all official issues. This can be seen in his insistence that provisions of the Abuja master plan must be followed in all construction work in the FCT.
This respect for the rule of law and due process can also be seen in the decisions ministry had earlier taken on some issues that were later reversed. It is on record that a lot of the achievements recorded so far by the Mohammed-led FCT administration were made possible through careful planning and the political will to implement them.  I’ve heard many FCT residents describe Bala Mohammed as on who has guts to do what he believes is correct.
Some of them attributed his success to his background as a trained journalist and a tough administrator with the guts to do what others before him had not been able to do. Some of the sensitive projects he has initiated include the land-swap initiative that has been wrongly characterised as ‘controversial’, when in fact it has provided a welcome easing of the land acquisition bottleneck in the FCT; the Abuja light rail project, the world trade centre, road constructions, affordable housing programme for residents, schools, land-reforms, the environment and an accelerated water provision and other services across the territory.
