The Commission marked the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Abuja code-named Kwibuka 20 which formally kicked off on January 7 at the Kigali, Rwanda capital city.The envoy said: “We have to remember the victims of the genocide against Tutsi who are estimated more than 1,000,000.
We remember them not just as a number, but by their names.” Supervising Minister of Foreign Affairs, Professor Viola A. Onwuliri, applauded the UN for adopting April 7 as international day of reflection on the 1994 genocide in Rwanda to remember the victims and for preventing a re-occurrence of such monumental tragedy.
