Members of Nigeria’s Super Eagles have formally received their national honours certificates, along with housing and land allocation documents, as part of rewards approved by the Federal Government for their runner-up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

The presentation was carried out on Monday in Fez, Morocco, by a Federal Government delegation led by the Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Abdul Ningi. The delegation handed over certificates of national honours and documents confirming the allocation of plots of land and housing units to the players.

The rewards fulfilled commitments made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the Super Eagles’ impressive run at the tournament, where Nigeria reached the final before losing 2–1 to host nation Côte d’Ivoire in the 2024-decided competition.

All squad members and team officials had earlier been conferred with the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) at a reception held at the Presidential Villa. The President also announced the allocation of a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory and a flat for each player in recognition of their performance.

Other officials present at the presentation included the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi; Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko; and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau. The NFF later confirmed that players had received their allocation certificates at the team’s camp.

Addressing the players, Hon. Amadu assured them of sustained government support and urged the team to aim higher by winning the next AFCON in Morocco, noting that a title triumph would attract even greater rewards.

The presentation comes nearly two years after the tournament and on the eve of Nigeria’s opening match at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
