The school Administrator, College of Education (COE)‎ Gidan Waya in Southern part of Kaduna State, Professor Emmanuel Joseph Chom, Friday, debunked media reports that five students of the institution were killed.

Professor Emmanuel while addressing newsmen in Kaduna described the reports as false and lacking any iota of truth.

He said  “No student of College of Education, Gidan Waya was killed as reported by a national daily and  online media.

Nothing of such happened. This report has caused so much fear in the minds of parents who have continued to call to authenticate the veracity of such report. ‎

The present situation in the state particularly where the school is located is very fragile and that is why we have to use this medium to tell all concerned persons that there was no attack on any student of the school.”

He added that “It is also important to note that the College among other schools within the area has been closed since November last year.

Also, at the moment, we don’t have the department of Mass Communication Education as the students allegedly killed were said to belong to that department of the college.

The only time a student of the school was killed was when a student who was on errand for his father took a wrong route and ran into the hands of Fulani Herdsmen and was killed, my security guard too prior to the closure of the school was killed, but these killings occurred last year and not recently as reported.”

He therefore called on well meaning individuals especially the media to always endeavor to cross check their information particularly as it affects security before publishing to avoid putting the state in bad light in the eyes of the public and investors. 

“Efforts are on to open back the school in view of the relative normalcy that is gradually returning to the area. Our internal security measures are in place for 24hours daily, we also have men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and armed police men to compliment security measures put in place by government,” professor Emmanuel stated.
