He made the remarks in Juba at a mini summit organized by the intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
In a statement issued by the South Sudan embassy in Abuja and made available to Daily Trust yesterday, the president called for peace from all quarters at this time to ensure that the struggles of over fifty decades are not wasted.
The statement quoted President Kiir as intended to form a transitional government of national unity which he said can only work when peace prevails.
“It is therefore pertinent that just as government forces are ever ready to abide by all agreements, the rebels should also endeavour to adhere strictly to the same so we can move forward,” the statement stressed.
The statement noted that a breakthrough was achieved on all outstanding issues and a Protocol on Agreed Principles of transitional arrangements was signed in another effort towards the resolution of the crisis which began in December 2013.
The agreement is aimed at creating a transitional government of national unity that will be all inclusive, representing all factions and all segments of South Sudanese society.
It is hoped that the implementation of these agreements will restore peace, security and order in the country.
