Barely two weeks after the fire incident at Sabon-Gari market, traders have started rebuilding their burnt shops, Kano Chronicle reports.
Our reporter who visited the market observed how bricklayers and labourers were busy rebuilding the shops.
AbdulRazak Sani Lawyer, Secretary of the Sabon-Gari young traders said traders were rebuilding the shops without government involvement. “All those that you see rebuilding their shops are doing it from their personal efforts and assistance from relatives”.
He added that traders were very happy with permission given to them by the state government to rebuild the shops, “as you can see, we are happy. If you see us you will not think something shocking has happened to us because of the chance given to us by the state government to personally build our shops without anybody’s intervention. The fire incident is indeed a disaster but allowing us to build our shops has reduce our pains because there is no disaster like losing one’s shop after an incident
A trader at the market whose shop was also burnt, Alhaji Ali Abdullahi Lambu said he had already bought all the necessary materials for rebuilding his shops even before the approval from government was given.
Our reporter observed that while some shops are being rebuilt, there are many that are in their burnt down condition because the owners are probably not having the wherewithal of rebuilding them.
