Residents of Saburi, in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), have appealed to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to provide drinkable water for the community.
The residents, who spoke to our reporter yesterday, lamented that they relied on water vendors who often get their supply from unhealthy private boreholes.
One of the residents, Idris Alhaji, said the call became necessary because they were not sure the water from the vendors was treated.
“We are getting water from private boreholes, which are not treated. But we have to buy because we don’t have an alternative. What most of us do is to use the water from the borehole for other domestic use and buy sachet water for drinking,” he said.
He, however, called on the FCTA to come to the aid of the community by providing tap water and prevent waterborne diseases.
Another resident, who gave his name as John, told our reporter that they bought a gallon of water at N20, adding that it is the only available option.
“We are calling on the government to give us safe tap water. The borehole water is not treated and anything can happen. We are relying on God for protection,” he said.
