The 2025 Ardova Handball Premier League Phase 1 kicked off in Benin City with thrilling action at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and Etete Sports Center, as top teams delivered standout performances in both the men’s and women’s categories.

Defending champions Safety Babes made an emphatic start, cruising past Ekiti Queens 52–29. Powered by MVP Ada Okey, the FRSC-backed side took a commanding 23–13 halftime lead and maintained their dominance to seal the win.

Making a dream debut, Soof Omo Ogiefo stunned the experienced Defender Babes 32–24. The Edo-based newcomers, buoyed by home support, led 15–12 at halftime and sustained their intensity throughout. Despite Blessing Iorlaha’s 11 goals for Defender Babes, the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps team was unable to contain the energetic debutants.

Plateau Peacocks narrowly edged Rivers Queens 22–21 in a tense contest. Leading 11–9 at the break, the Jos side held firm in the closing stages, with Choice Soji contributing 9 crucial goals.

In the men’s matches, reigning champions Tojemarine HC defeated newly promoted Osun United 25–19, leading 12–7 at halftime and controlling the pace with strong defense and quick transitions.

Rima Strikers edged COAS Shooters 26–25 in a nail-biter, while Niger United overpowered Adamawa Warriors 36–24. Safety Shooters thrashed Lagos Seasiders 36–18, and Correction Boys dispatched De Defenders 26–13 in dominant fashion.
