A sales girl in Osogbo, Osun State, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for stealing her employer’s money.

The 38-year-old woman, Toyin Raheem, who was a staff of a telecommunication outlet, was said to have stolen N4.5 million. She was arraigned for theft, fraud and arson.

During her trial, the state prosecution counsel, Abiodun Badiora, told the court that Raheem committed the offence in June 2017 at WOLID Investment Limited in Osogbo.

Badiora said the woman stole the sum of N4.5 million kept at her disposal and also attempted to dubiously set the business outlet ablaze to cover up.

He said her intention was to deceive the owner that the money got burnt in the building but the fire was quenched.

The convict’s lawyer, Abdulfatai Abdulsalam, prayed the court to be lenient with his client.

After she was pronounced guilty, Justice Yinka Aderibigbe sentenced her to 15 years at Ilesa prison.

The judge, who did not give her any option of fine, said she deserved to be in prison given the magnitude of her offence.
