A 47-year-old salesman, Taofeek Salawudeen, on Tuesday, appeared before a Badagry magistrates’ court for allegedly stealing two truck batteries and goods valued at N1,647,000; a charge to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Akpan Nkem, informed the court that the defendant stole the items on January 4, at a warehouse within the International Trade Fair Complex on Badagry Road, Lagos State.

ASP Nkem said the salesman stole 2,584 packs of Viju table water valued at N1,292,000; 102 packs of Viju milk valued at N255,000 and two truck batteries valued at N100,000; property of his employer, one Mr Ifeanyi Anyawole, and that the offence violated Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000, with two sureties who must be gainfully employed and adjourned the case to February 23.
Another for breach of trust in Abuja
In a related development, a 39-year-old man, Mba Chijioke, on Tuesday, appeared before a Wuse Zone VI, Abuja, magistrates’ court over alleged criminal breach of trust.
Chijioke of Durumi area in Abuja was charged with a two-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and cheating to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Peter Ejike, told the court that the complainant, Amaechi Friday, of Shop C3, Abuja Shopping Mall, Wuse Zone III, reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Wuse, on January 28.
Ejike said sometime in September, 2020, the defendant went to the complainant’s shop and collected 100 pieces of plastic chairs valued at N620,000, sold them and diverted N92,000 for his personal use out of the total sum of N620,000 that he sold the chairs for.
He said during police investigation, Chijioke admitted committing the offences, which he noted contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The Defence Counsel, W I Achuke, prayed the court to grant the defendant bail in the most liberal terms, saying he was a first time offender and would not jump bail, citing Section 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution and Section 158 (152) of the Criminal Justice Act.
The Magistrate, Linda Chidama, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300,000, with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to March 17. (NAN)
