Founder and President of the Sam Empowerment Foundation (SEF), Aisha Achimugu, has empowered over 100 widows and distributed food items to some indigent residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of activities marking the end of Ramadan and the Sallah celebration in Sauka Village.

The outreach, carried out under the Foundation’s Food Bank Initiative, targeted widows, children, and other vulnerable groups, providing essential food supplies to ease the festive period.

Speaking at the event, Achimugu said the initiative was aimed at spreading joy and supporting underserved communities during Sallah.

“The Sallah season is about sharing joy, making lives better, and emulating the Holy Prophet. Today, we have empowered over widows and provided food for indigent persons in Sauka Village to celebrate,” she said.

She also called on governments and corporate organisations to prioritise policies that promote food security for vulnerable Nigerians, describing it as critical to national development.

In her remarks, the Programme Director of SEF, Mrs. Kiema Ogunlana, underscored the importance of giving back to society, noting that such efforts contribute meaningfully to national growth.

Ogunlana further advocated gender inclusion, stressing the need for fairness, equal opportunities, and protection from discrimination.

“There is a need to recognise that people of different genders face different challenges. We must remove discrimination and create inclusive environments where everyone feels safe, valued, and heard.

“Equal access to jobs and promotion, fair pay, protection from harassment, and involving both men and women in decision-making are essential. In simple terms, it is about ensuring no one is left out or treated unfairly because of their gender,” she said.

She added that the Foundation has sustained interventions across IDP camps, rural communities, hospitals, schools, and vulnerable homes, impacting lives beyond structured programmes.

Ogunlana encouraged Nigerians and corporate bodies to emulate such philanthropic efforts, emphasising that collective action remains key to addressing societal challenges.

Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Mrs. Musa Yahaya expressed appreciation to Achimugu for the gesture and urged others to support vulnerable communities.

The event also featured side attractions, including pick-and-drop competitions for children, dancing contests, and a mini funfair.
