Kaduna State Government has re-adjusted the two-day window period it relaxed to allow resident shop for food and other essentials to Wednesday and Thursday as against Wednesday and Saturday.

The state government on Sunday said residents will be allowed to visit their neighbourhood markets on Wednesday and Thursday; the two-day window which the restriction of movement will be relaxed.

Though the state government did not link the readjustment to the anticipated Sallah celebration at the weekend, Daily Trust gathered that the directive was aimed at discouraging free movements and congestion during the Sallah period.

A statement issued by the Managing Director of Kaduna Markets Development and Management Company (KMDMC), Muhammad Hafiz Bayero on Sunday, said residents will be free to visit their neighbourhood markets on 20th and 21st May 2020 to purchase food and other essential items.

“This adjustment means that no market will be open next Saturday,” he clarified.

Bayero emphasized that the temporary neighbourhood markets will operate from 10am to 4pm on the two days on which the restriction of movement is relaxed.

He appealed to residents to comply with the guidelines and other conditions including the need to wear face mask and submit to temperature checks before entering the markets.

The statement commended “the orderly and mature attitude” of traders and customers making the neighbourhood markets work as safe spaces for getting essentials, adding that trading activities went smoothly in about 46 temporary markets last Saturday.
