Elaborating on the majority ruling, Justice Anthony Kennedy said the plaintiffs in the case asked “for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.” The effect is that all US states must grant marriage licenses to gay, lesbian couples and recognise marriage that have taken place in other states.
 This is absurd and a flagrant attempt to alter the natural order of existence as mankind has known it to be for millennia. The country that prides itself of being God’s own country has turned full cycle to usurp the place of God. 
Holy books of all the major religions identify intercourse between members of the same sex as abominable and against natural law.  One of the cardinal purposes of proper marriage between a consenting man and a woman is to fulfil nature’s law and Divine injunction that humanity must procreate in order to survive and regenerate itself. Clearly, no other type of relationship can perform that crucial role. Nor would the obnoxious misapplication of scientific knowhow to alter the male internal organs to bear a child do the trick in a sustainable manner. 
US president, Barack Obama, going against his oft-stated opposition to the practice, now described the ruling as a “victory for America”. “When all Americans are treated as equal, we are all more free” he said. Taking freedom and equality this far appears to mean that for American political establishments, these values should be rated higher that Nature’s Law. What absurdity! The Christian conservatives’ view that the Court’s ruling was “an out-of-control act of unconstitutional, judicial tyranny” is apt and should represent the battle cry of any movement to muster enough political muscle and judicial stamina to overturn the law.   
 It is a good thing that Nigeria went ahead since last to enact a law criminalizing same-sex relationships, despite pressure from western governments, who threatened to impose sanctions if Nigeria neglected to ‘respect’ gay and lesbian rights. Clearly there is some gathering momentum by western countries to make the issue a foreign policy matter. That would be nonsense and should not intimidate Nigerian and other countries that have taken a strong pushback against any attempt to influence their legislations on the matter.
If it proved hard to bend the Goodluck Jonathan administration to take a softer line on the issue, it can only be imagined what an immovable stumbling block the hidden persuaders would find in the Presidency of Muhammadu Buhari. Still, vigilance is warranted. The practice is not just un-African; it is not a practice known to find acceptance anywhere, even in Europe up to the end of the 20th century. Now, even in that region, some countries have legalised such bestial conduct, and only recently approved that conjugal relationship between parents and their children is no longer unlawful.
It also important to remind same-sex advocates who took to the streets in some part of Nigeria demanding for such rights, following the US Supreme Court decision that the legislation outlawing such practice is in place.
The law prescribes that gays and lesbians in Nigeria risk 14-year jail term if they do not renounce such marriage. It also states that any person who operates or participates in gay clubs, societies and organizations directly or indirectly will earn 10-year imprisonment on conviction. It does not spare those who administer witness, abet or aid the solemnisation of a same sex marriage either, and prescribes10-year jail term for such persons.
