To this end, the legal practitioner has enjoined the state House of Assembly to formally pass the Shari’a Bill into law to flag off its operation and enforcement among Muslim faithful saying this is desirable in accordance with the provisions of Section 38(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.
Alhaji Sanusi, who is the Chairman, Elders Consultative Forum of the Supreme Council for Shari’a in Nigeria, Oyo State chapter, made the call in Ibadan on Sunday on the occasion of the organisation’s 3rd annual Zakat Distribution of the sum of N2,270,000 among 111 less privileged beneficiaries including widows, disabled people as well as unemployed youths.
He said:  “There is yet to be a bill formally passed for Shari’a operation and enforcement in Oyo State House of Assembly and the Executive respectively. We still use this forum to call on our incoming assembly members and the Executive Governor of Oyo State to set machineries in motion for enduring framework and necessary practice, judicially, materially in all daily activities for members in Oyo State Muslim ummah in line with the command of Almighty Allah.”
While maintaining that Zakat is one of the five obligatory pillars of Islam, Alhaji Sanusi tasked all Muslim faithful to strive at all times to observe all the requirements of all the five pillars.
“It is part of responsibility of the government therefore to create enabling environment for the practice of every religion effectively as much as the government does for promotion of economic and social activities of the citizenry on daily basis,” the lawyer submitted.
Also speaking at the occasion, the chairman of the Muslim community of Oyo State, Alhaji Kunle Sanni, enjoined all well-endowed people in the society to endeavour to cushion the hardship of the less privileged people through Zakat.
