Traders and students battled under the overbearing sand storm to save wares but the destruction was massive. A wholesale egg seller, whose eggs were destroyed, could not contain her emotions as she tried to salvage wares.
With the help of students, parts of affected kiosks, stores and shanties at the commercials centre were cleared to enable movement on the walks. Other structures affected by the storm include the roof of the new Faculty of Education and some parts of students’ hostels.
It is impossible to estimate the quantity of damage but there was no loss of human lives.
