The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has urged intending pilgrims in the state to embrace Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS).
HSS, launched by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), is a contributory payment scheme for prospective Muslims wishing to undertake pilgrimage to Makkah. It affords the less privileged Muslims the opportunity to save enough money over a period of time to participate in the spiritual exercise.
Speaking at the launch in Lagos, the governor, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Kadri Hamzat, said the initiative would change the narratives of Hajj operation and assured of the state government‘s support.
NAHCON’s chairman, Barr. Zikrullah Kunle Hassan, said the scheme was a historic milestone toward self-financing, which would reduce dependence on the scarce government resources for hajj operations.
