Following this incident, the South Atlantic Petroleum Limited (SAPETRO) commenced the construction of a one million litres water reservoir at the university to end the water problem.  
At the successful completion of the project, SAPETRO commissioned and donated the reservoir to NSUK on Tuesday, December 17, 2014.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Muhammad Akaro Mainoma, commended SAPETRO for its support to Nigerian institutions, saying: “With this intervention, the water problem of Nasarawa State University has now been solved.”
Speaking at the occasion, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (Rtd), Chairman of SAPETRO, represented by Senator (Mrs.) Daisy Danjuma, Executive Vice Chairman of SAPETRO mentioned that over N166.6 million was spent on the water project.
She stated: “I am delighted to be here today to commission this project on behalf of the entire management of SAPETRO. We are proud to be intervening in key areas where government has failed to deliver because it is part of our corporate social responsibilities to the society. SAPETRO will continue to do the best it can to support the development of this university.”
The Registrar of NSUK, Alhaji Dalhatu O. Mamman, recalled that “we all know, the university clinic, a modern and well-equipped healthcare centre, was donated to this university in 2013 by SAPETRO.”
