The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has said that the current ratio of 1-15 infant mortality rate in Nigeria was too high and unacceptable.
He stated this in Ilorin during the commissioning of the Mogaji Ngeri Basic Health Centre renovated by the member representing Ilorin Central Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hajia Segilola Abdul Kadir.
The Senate President who was represented by the former Majority Leader of the state’s House of Assembly, Alhaji Kayode Omotosho, insisted that the trend could be reversed when all tiers of government, corporate organizations and wealthy individuals are committed to effective primary healthcare delivery, noting that America attained ratio 1-250 child mortality rate due to political will by the American government.
The state governor, Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed, described primary healthcare as bedrock of effective healthcare delivery.
Hajia Segilola Abdulkadir said that she embarked on the project to ensure safe delivery and utilisation of quality new born care service as a vital intervention towards accelerating maternal mortality reduction in the state.
