The Late Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki Annual Prize Award, as it is known, was launched by Senator Bukola Saraki on behalf of the family, when he handed over a N2.5 million cheque to the school.
He said the award was borne of his commitment and support to Kwara’s education sector to encourage young undergraduates remain focused in their studies.
Unilorin vice chancellor, Professor Abdul Ganiyu Ambali, who received the cheque, assured the donation will boost the moral and academic performance of students and make them put in their best at school.
He also assured that the money will be judiciously and transparently utilized for the benefit of the deserving students of the institution.
The handover came after beneficiaries of the 2013 prize-medical student Mohammed Yusuf and political science student Temitope Alatise-were announced and presented cash awards at Unilorin’s convocation.
Directors from Saraki’s constituency office in Ilorin, who represented the senator at the event, commended his efforts and expressed hope that benefiting students will reciprocate the gesture by “concentrating on their studies and making the state proud.”
