When the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, began in September last year many Nigerians assumed it was just an internal wrangling within the rank and file of the ruling party that could be amicably resolved. The political perception has suddenly disappeared with the ongoing trial that defied any quick solution. When the progressive minded politicians decided to float new political party ahead of the general election, sacrifice, commitment and sincerity of purpose were the core ingredients demanded from the members or co-travellers. Saraki did not only exhibit this commitment, but also worked assiduously to the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Going back the memory lane, Bukola Saraki along with six others governors, rebelled against the former president who wanted to contest the 2015 general election against his party zonal arrangement. This was what forced them out and led to the formation of G7 that culminated into the new PDP. With the coming together of others political parties namely: ACN, CPC, ANPP and APGA that translated into the present ruling party, the must win battle for better and new Nigerian began. I am not trying to disturb you with the historical formation of the APC, but rather point out the contribution the present Senate president made for the success of the party. The frosty relationship between the legislature and executive as the result of Saraki’s travails has seriously affected the smooth running of the government.
The present administration came to power through popular mandate. And looking at the high expectations from Nigerians, the age-long impasse is uncalled for and diversionary. Time is not on the side of the government. Already, the change regime has entered into second year of its life, and a lot of programs are under way. This called for harmonious relationship between the three arms of the government. Since the ordeal began, the Senate president has been crying of persecution. He lamented that Buhari government has been hijacked by some forces that are hell bent to grab what legitimately belongs to him. It is a known fact that power belongs to God and He gives it to whomever He wants to give. Saraki is opportune and destined to lead the 8th chamber of national assembly. Let him be!
