The Sarkin Edo in Kano state, His Highness Deacon Fred Akhigbe has honored winner of Miss Heart of Nigeria Ambassador competition, Mercy Okoduwa.
Akhigbe, who hosted Mercy in his palace in Sabon Gari, Kano described her success as something to be very proud of among Edo people.
He said, “Your success at the competition is ours. Every Edo person will be proud of you because you have demonstrated that an Edo man is capable of competing with other tribes in every human endeavours. Not even competing but performing his utmost best.”
He urged Mercy to always be committed to all her endeavours, appealing to other Edo’s ladies studying in various tertiary institutions to see Mercy as a role model.
Speaking to newsmen, Mercy described her success in the competition as huge and assured that she would pay attention to humanitarian services.
She said, “I will pay attention to humanitarian services especially in the rural areas. I will concentrate on improving health and empowerment programmes.”
Mercy said she had planned to start the programmes from Kano state where she is currently serving her one year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
“I will start the programmes from Kano then Edo state before I will expand it to other states. I will target youth with particular interests on girl child education. The less privileged will also be given special regard,” she said.
