Speaking at a two-day conference organised by SASAKAWA Africa Association in collaboration with the National Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, the Country Director of SASAKAWA, Professor Sani Miko, said the problems of Nigerian farmers need holistic approach.
“The 2014 SG2000/stakeholders annual review and planning workshop is part of SASAKAWA’s programme implementation aimed at tackling some constraints encountered in the previous year. It is also aimed at coming up with a new plan for the year ahead.
“Whatever we do,we try to make it demand-driven. This is one of the basic reasons why we brought you here. We are here to share with you our experiences during the past year, which of course we implemented with your help and commitment.
“This will enable us refocus, remodel and to look very holistic in our approach to some of the perennial problems militating against productivity and income generation of our poor resource farmers,”Professor Miko said.
In his speech, the Director, Institute for Agricultural Research(IAR), Dr Ahmed Falaki, said SG 2000 was a household name in every state of Northern Nigeria, describing their activities as programmes that are alleviating poverty at the grass roots.
