A scavenger, identified as Rabiu, narrowly escaped being lynched by a mob for allegedly stealing a generator at Unguwar Kashew in Kwali Area Council of the FCT.
Joseph Dangana, a resident of Unguwar Kashew, said the incident occurred on Sunday around 10:47 pm when the suspect entered a compound and stole a generator.
He explained that the generator’s owner had turned it on due to a power outage and was sleeping when the suspect disconnected the wire and made off with the generator.
Dangana added that the owner immediately rushed out of his room, discovered the generator was gone, and raised an alarm.

“The alarm attracted the attention of some vigilantes on patrol, who flagged down the suspect as he was on a bike with the stolen generator,” he said.
He added that some youths rushed out of their homes and began beating the suspect, but the vigilantes forcefully rescued him.
The spokeswoman of the FCT police command, SP Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comment regarding the incident.
