An internationally recognized Qur’an scholar, Dr Dauda Awwal, has announced the launch of the English-Yoruba Qur’an 4-in-1 project and the “My First 13 Surahs for Children” edition.
The initiative is a comprehensive 4-in-1 Qur’an that combines the original Arabic text of the Qur’an, full transliteration to aid accurate pronunciation, complete Yoruba translation (with high linguistic fidelity), and English translation with commentary, hadith, biblical references, and scientific insights.
The ‘My First 13 Surahs for Children’ is an equally pioneering project designed for children aged five to 10 years.
This also includes 13 short Surahs with Arabic, English, and Yoruba translations, Colorful illustrations, activities, and worksheets, audio and video recitations, a mobile app and digital copy for interactive learning.

Speaking on the vision behind the project, the author, Dr. Dauda Awwal, said: “Reverend Samuel Cole translated parts of the Qur’an into Yoruba in 1906, but his work lacked Arabic texts, transliteration, and accurate interpretation.
“For over a century, Yoruba-speaking Muslims have had no authentic reference that combines all these elements in one resource. This project will not only bridge that gap but also bring the Qur’an closer to millions of Yoruba communities across the globe.”
Awwal said the project aims to print and distribute five million copies of “My First 13 Surahs” worldwide.
Expectedly, one million copies will be distributed in Europe, two million copies in Africa, one million copies in America, and one million copies in Asia.
“The initiative will also include digital distribution through mobile apps and interactive e-books, making Qur’anic education accessible to children and families worldwide,” Awwal said.
Awwal called for global sponsors, Islamic organizations, and philanthropists to partner in the historic project.
Awwal said: “It is a cultural legacy, a tool for interfaith understanding, and a bridge for future generations. We are inviting global leaders, including His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to help us make this vision a reality.”
Dr. Awwal is a graduate of Muhammad Ibn Saud University in Riyadh and has authored over 50 books. His works have received global recognition, including acknowledgment from the late Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.
The project had been officially presented to the Nigerian High Commission in London and Nigerian Communities in the UK a few years ago.
