School feeding programme to gulp N5.4b in Sokoto, 1million students targeted

Over N5.4 billion has been earmarked to feed  one million students in primary and secondary school students in Sokoto this year,  Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education,Alhaji Mainasara Ahmed,disclosed.

” This money also includes the home grown school feeding programme to be jointly undertaken by both the federal and state governments, " he added.
 
Ahmed  stated this on Thursday at a three-day Workshop on ‘2016 Sokoto State Budget Performance Review and Public Hearing on 2017 Budget’, organized by a USAID-assisted Leadership,Empowerment, Advocacy and Development(LEAD),Project being implemented in Sokoto and Bauchi States.

He said  gesture was aimed at boosting  students’ enrolment, retention and completion,especially for the girl child.

The Permanent Secretary said the pupils and students who would benefit from the programme  are  in boarding and non boarding schools across the 23 local governments in the state.

He also disclosed three boards- Female Education Board , Secondary Education Board and  Examinations Board were established in the state.
 
This, he said was  to enhance the standard of education.
