Government College, Katsina, formerly Provincial Secondary School, Katsina also released the lists of 17 other students that graduated same year with Buhari as well as their results for that year’s Cambridge/WASC.
Some of his classmates included late Major General Shehu Musa Yar’adua, Chief of General Staff, Supreme Headquarters and former Justice Umaru Abdullahi, President of the Court of Appeal.
The copy of the results shows that Buhari passed with credit in five subjects – English Language, Hausa Language, History, Geography and Health Science.
The General had pass in Literature in English but failed Mathematics and Wood Work.
Earlier in a press conference in at the Kano Government House,  Buhari had said that he decided to address the press on the issue to put the record straight instead of dismissing it as the mischief that it is.
His speech read in part: “I had assumed all along that all my records were in the custody of the Military Secretary of the Nigerian Army, a position I had the privilege of holding while in the military.
“Much to my surprise, we are now told that although a record of the result is available, there are no copies of the certificates in my personal file.
“This is why I formally requested my old school the Provincial Secondary School, Katsina [which is now known as Government College, Katsina] to make available the school’s copy of the result of the Cambridge/West African School Certificate. This will be made available to the press the moment this is available.
However, before we obtain that, let me say for the record that I attended Provincial Secondary School, Katsina.
“I graduated in 1961 with many prominent Nigerians, including [late] General Shehu Yar’adua, former chief of staff at the Supreme Headquarters, and [retired] Justice Umaru Abdullahi, a former President of the Court of Appeal. “We sat for the University of Cambridge/WASC Examination together in 1961, the year we graduated. My examination number was 8280002, and I passed the examination in the Second Division.
“And although the ruling party may want to wish this away, the issue in this campaign cannot be my certificate which I obtained 53 years ago.
“The issues are the scandalous level of unemployment of millions of our young people, the state of insecurity, the pervasive official corruption which has impoverished our people and the lack of concern of the government for anything other than the retention of power at all costs.”
Daily Trust’s correspondent in Katsina State, who visited the school along Kofar Sauri yesterday, was shown the General’s files containing all his records as a student.
An official of the school, who does not want to be named because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, told Daily Trust that two people were in the school and obtained copies of the results.
“I can also release a copy to you but you have to request for it formally,” he said.
Professor Haruna Kaita of the Ahmadu Bello University’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences later told Daily Trust that was the one of those who  applied and secured the score sheet of the General’s results.
“When I sensed the conspiracy that was about to unfold, I sought the consent of the General. So, I went to the school. The management of the school told me that they have the original copy of the 1961 WASC that was sent to them from the University of Cambridge. They gave me a photocopy of the score sheet.
“All statements of results that the school issued to all the 18 students that sat for the WASC 1961 were extracted from this score sheet. The General has also applied for a copy of another statement of result, and I am sure he would get it before the end of the week,” Professor Kaita said.
The Buhari Campaign Organisation also distributed copies of the certificate as well as the result master sheet to the media yesterday.
The ruling PDP has made Buhari’s certificate an issue in the February 14 election in which he is President Goodluck Jonathan’s main challenger.
