The Emir of Hadejia, Adamu Abubakar Maje, has said that a lot of people, particularly in the rural areas, are apathetic to education, and called for more engagement in education.
He spoke at his palace when he received in audience the executive members of the National Open University Alumni Association (NOUNAA).
He called on university degree seekers to join the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) irrespective of their social responsibilities, status or age.
The emir said he was among students that recently graduated from the university.
He called on NOUN to set up a study centre in Hadejia, adding that “age and work engagement are no longer barriers to acquiring education.
“I am appealing for a study centre in my domain in order to discourage apathy among those who think they have advanced in age and therefore cannot acquire education.”
