The governments of Kaduna and Plateau states have announced that schools across the two states will be reopened on October 19 and 30 respectively.

In Kaduna, the Commissioner of Education, Dr Shehu Usman Muhammad Makarfi, who announced this on Thursday, said the directive to reopen schools across the state on October 19 was for private and public schools.

He cautioned that all the schools’ managements must ensure that COVID-19 protocols are observed by the students, adding that morning and afternoon classes will be conducted to maintain social distancing.

He also explained that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure smooth learning and safety of students especially at this period of COVID-19.

“The 18th of October is for the SS2 boarding students to go back to school and 19th October for the day students.

“All the SS2, JSS2 and Primary 6 students will come back to school to sit for their various examinations.

“SS2 students will write the exam that will move them to SS3, JSS2 students will write the exam that will move them to JSS3 while primary 6 pupils will come and write the exit exam that will take them to JSS1,” he said.

In Plateau State, Governor Simon Bako Lalong, also said the directive for schools in the state to resume on October 30 was for all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state.

In a statement signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Makut Simon Macham, the governor said the decision followed engagement with all stakeholders and setting up of mechanisms for observing COVID-19 protocols in all schools in the state.

The governor said various training and engagements have been held to orient school principals and teachers on basic operational requirements.
