Israeli scientists and researchers at high-tech company, Afimilk, has developed an artificial intelligence system that can predict each cow’s annual milk output in advance.
According to ‘Israelagri’, an Israel International Agriculture Portal, the technology developed by the company “currently manages over 10 million cows in cowsheds in 52 countries around the world.”
Citing data from ResearchAndMarkets.com, it stated, “The volume of investment in artificial intelligence solutions in agriculture is expected to increase by $11.2billion by 2030, compared to 671.6$million in 2019.
“We have a lot of data on each cow in our system, thanks to the increasing use of sensors we have developed in cowsheds and milking facilities, an increase in the use of herd management software, and the availability of data from a large number of cowsheds, uploaded to the cloud for analysis and study (training” of the software),” Oren Drori, VP of Product Management at Afimilk stated at the site.
Drori also stated that this analysis was particularly crucial in managing cowsheds as it allows the “prediction of the amount of milk and the economic performance of each cow.”
He stated, “Our technology also makes it possible to predict diseases prior to the onset of direct symptoms because, just like in human medicine, the most effective strategy is always prevention.
“When markets push milk prices down and environmental considerations limit the number of cows, milk producers must be more efficient than ever. Each cow should produce more milk at a lower cost per litre with a lower carbon footprint.
“As herds grow, the roles of farmers become more managerial, which increases the potential value of the technology they use.”
The Israeli International Agriculture Portal stated that Afimilk currently focuses on the smart management of cowsheds developing, manufacturing and marketing of advanced management solutions for cowsheds, which include smart sensors, artificial intelligence-based monitoring and prediction systems, and management interfaces on PCs and smart-phones. The company’s products are marketed in 52 countries around the world.
