The modest club which has never won the domestic league is funded by the Niger State government, owners of the club.

SuperSport.com learnt that several candidates are scrambling to replace David, who remains the most successful Chairman at the club.

However, there are strong indications that David will be retained as chairman considering his achievements at the club which operates with a shoe-string budget.

Niger State Sports Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Hassan told journalists recently in Minna that some members them will be retained, while “new blood will be injected to the club’s management.”

David, a former member of the Ibrahim Galadima led Nigeria Football Association was Chairman in 2000, when Bernard Ogbe led a bunch of rookies then campaigning in the old second division to beat tournament favourites, Enugu Rangers, in the finals of the Coca-Cola FA Cup (now Federation Cup).

Nigeria Football Federation board member, Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, who doubles as Niger State Football Association boss, as well as Handball Federation of Nigeria chairman, Yusuf Dauda, who is a former chairman of the team, amongst others are said to be in the race.

When contacted by SuperSport.com, Fresh said: “I learnt the state government is considering candidates for the job. If I’m offered the position, I will accept it.”
