A 30-year-old scrap dealer, Kalu Iloh, has been remanded in a correctional facility by the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Offences Court in Awka, Anambra State.
Magistrate Mrs. U.E. Onochie issued the order after Iloh was arraigned on a one-count charge of defilement.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge of allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl with down syndrome.
The magistrate adjourned the case until September 24, for sentencing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Chinyere Okechukwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 13 in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area. (NAN)
According to the victim’s 42-year-old mother, she reported the case to the police after returning from a business trip and noticing her daughter was walking unusually.
When asked, her daughter said that the defendant had forced his way into the bathroom while she was urinating, removed her clothing, and sexually assaulted her.
After a medical examination at, a medical practitioner confirmed that the girl had been defiled.
Okechukwu stated that the offence violates Sections 130(2) (a) (b) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2022.
