The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has arrested a scrap dealer over alleged  possession of vandalized electrical cables.

The suspect, identified as 50-year-old Muhammad Adamu, a scrap seller from Maruwa town in the Kafin Hausa Local Government Area of Jigawa State, was apprehended by operatives on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at about 3pm.

According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, the arrest followed an intelligence report linking the suspect to the illegal possession of cables suspected to have been stripped from public infrastructure.

He said during the operation, NSCDC personnel recovered about 267 meters of aluminum cable from the suspect’s possession.

The recovered material is estimated to be worth N573,300.

Accoding to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the cables were allegedly brought to Adamu’s residence for safekeeping by two individuals identified as Sani and Auwalu, both natives of Ruba village in the Kafin Hausa Local Government Area.

He said while Adamu is in custody, the two accomplices remain at large, adding that the security operatives have since intensified efforts to track them down.

“The suspect is presently in custody while the investigation is ongoing. Efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing accomplices linked to the crime,” the statement confirmed.

Reacting to the development, the State Commandant of the NSCDC warned those involved in vandalizing critical national assets to desist or face the full wrath of the law.
