The president of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS), Mrs Gloria Laraba Shoda, has identified sensitisation of rural women as necessary for the success of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Shoda, who spoke in Abuja said there are several rural women in the country that know nothing about the SDGs, adding that unless such gaps were bridged, Nigeria would find it difficult to accomplish the goals in 2030.
“What are we doing to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals? We have to balance knowledge between rural women and those in the urban cities. There are women in the rural communities that do not know what SDGs mean,” she said.
She said, during its forthcoming 60th anniversary, the association would enlighten women on SDGs in a bid to reposition them to occupy their rightful place in the society.
She reiterated that in line with the programme’s theme ‘The Change Leadership and Gender Balance: A Transformation, Dimension to National Development’, there was need for gender balance in the country.
Shoda, however, urged women to be focused in what they were doing, “don’t wait for government to give you job but try and get something doing. All you need is to struggle a little bit and find what you can and you will not need to depend on government.”
