Suspected ritualists paraded by the police in Lagos yesterday.
The police have arrested five men, including a security guard attached to a cemetery, who are accused of exhuming corpses for ritual purposes.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 2, Lawal Shehu, yesterday, said the suspects were notorious ritualists who after exhuming the corpses sold the body parts.
He said the zone received information on December 3 that one Jimoh Adeola, a security guard attached to Mushin cemetery was seen with human parts.
“During their confessional statements the duo said they were human parts dealers who have been dealing in such for a very long time.
“Detectives from the Zonal Intervention Squad were detailed to investigate the matter,” he said.
The AIG said the suspects led police detectives from the zone to arrest four other members of the gang.
He gave the names of the suspected gang members as Lukmon Bayewunmi, Badmus Kabir, Victor Nnacheta and Nurudeen Shodaolu.
He said items recovered from them included dried human jaw and scalp.
The police boss said on the strength of that, operatives have been ordered to continue raids on herbalists’ homes in Lagos and Ogun states following upsurge in ritual killings.
The AIG said some herbalists were in the habit of aiding the activities of ritualists, adding that the two groups worked hand in hand.
One of the suspected ritualists, Victor Nnacheta, 20, who hails from Aguleri in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State, said in his statement to the police that he consulted two Abeokuta, Ogun State-based marabout, Kabiru Badmos and Nurudeen Shodaolu, who undertook to perform money-making ritual for him with a human skull and other body parts for N250,000.
Nnacheta told our correspondent that he had asked the marabout to make him prosperous in his Bet9ja business as he had no parents.
He noted that he had paid the men to prepare the concoction that would make him rich when the police arrested them.
