The police on Monday arraigned a 45-year-old security guard, Ismail Obafunsho, before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly breaking into a shop to steal goods worth N2.2 million.
Obafunsho, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary, and stealing. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others at large conspired to commit the offense sometime in 2025, at about 7am in the Bells Junction area of Ota.
He alleged that the defendant conspired with accomplices to break into a shop and steal four bags of rice, 10 packs of Indomie, 10 packs of Pepsi, and other valuable items, all totaling ₦2.2 million.
The prosecutor stated that the offences contravene Sections 390(9), 414, and 516 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦300,000 with one surety in like sum. Fadairo ruled that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the state government.
The case was adjourned until March 2 for hearing. (NAN)
