The Police have dragged one Idowu Babayemi before an Akure Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of a locally made pistol.

Babayemi, a local security guard whose age and address were not stated, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor Insp. Augustine Omhenimhen, told the court that Babayemi and others at large, were intercepted on May 5, around 2.20pm at KAM Junction in Ijoka, Akure. 

He alleged that officers stopped the defendant while he was on a motorcycle and found a locally fabricated pistol on him. (NAN)

He alleged that the defendant could not provide a lawful reason for having it.

The Magistrate, Taiwo Lebi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5m with two sureties in like sum.

He ruled that one surety must be a civil servant on grade level 10 or above.

The court adjourned the case until June 30, for hearing. (NAN)
