A security man who allegedly killed a 17-year-old senior secondary student in Enugu State for plucking cashew nuts has been arrested by the police.

Ugochukwu Oduburu, a student of GTC Akama in Ezeagu Local Government Area had reportedly gone to pick cashew nuts when the security man attached to the cashew industry at Akama allegedly shot him to death.

The State Police Command spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen in Enugu yesterday, stated that the tragedy occurred on February 17, this year. 

Amaraizu said the deceased, a part-time cashew nuts picker, was staying with his brother in the area and that  he had gone to pick cashew nuts on that fateful day “when suddenly he was shot and killed by the suspect later identified as one Vitalis Ilo.”

He said the suspect allegedly used a single barrel locally made gun to shoot the deceased.

He further stated that before the death of Oduburu, one other person had earlier been killed inside the bush near the plantation. He added that all the corpses were abandoned in the bush.

Amaraizu said the suspect was now helping positively in the investigation of the two murder incidences as the  corpses had been recovered.
