A joint security operation led by the Anambra State Police Command has successfully dismantled a notorious criminal camp in Ogbunka, located in Orumba South Local Government Area, following a six-hour gun battle with armed criminals.

The operation, which took place deep in the bush, involved multiple security agencies, including the army from the 302 Artillery Regiment (GS), the Navy from the Naval Command, the Department of State Security, and the Anambra State Vigilante.

According to the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation was a direct response to information gathered over time.

He said the security team engaged in a fierce fire fight with the criminals, and with superior firepower, was able to neutralise some of the explosives used by the criminals as shield for their camp.

During the operation, he said the team successfully recovered a variety of stolen goods, including cooking utensils, foodstuffs, and parts of stolen vehicles.

According to him, while several criminals were injured, others escaped with varying degrees of bullet wounds.

SP Ikenga confirmed that the operatives had taken control of the area to maintain security dominance and prevent any further criminal activity.

He said efforts were on to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
