Managing Director of the fund, Abubakar Munir, made the call when he led his management team on a courtesy call on newly elected president of NLC Comrade Ayuba Wabba, at the Paschal Bafyau Labour House in Abuja.
Munir assured the NLC of the fund’s readiness and ability to implement the contents of the Act, which is currently awaiting assent by President Goodluck Jonathan, saying it will go a long way in providing succour to workers injured or killed in the line of duty.
While congratulating Wabba on his emergence as NLC president, he expressed hope for greater collaboration, especially in educating both employers and employees on the benefits of the scheme and its statutory requirements.
On his part, Wabba, supported by congress’ General Secretary Comrade Peter Ozo-Eson and other staff of the NLC, said both institutions have been partners for long, promising to maintain the tradition.
“We have come a very long way; we are ready and committed to ensuring that issues of Nigerian workers are taken seriously. You are a strategic partner and we will work to ensure that workers take advantage of all safety nets provided by government,” Wabba said.
He commended government for coming up with the scheme, saying Nigeria should constantly seek for, and adopt global best practices on workers welfare and socio-economic development.
