Playwright Seffi Atta’s 2014 play, ‘Last Stand’, a modern Nigerian family drama, is going to be staged today in Abuja.

The play is about a battle of wills between a dying general and his estranged heirs. General Mashood Balogun is on his deathbed. He decides to leave his estate to his first son, Rotimi, bypassing his daughters, thus creating an uproar in his family. General Mashood has married three wives and they all bore him children. 

Rotimi, a medical doctor, refuses to step into his father’s shoes and inherit the estate, and his dying father stands firm in his bid to make Rotimi his successor.

Atta is known for other plays she’s written, such as ‘An Ordinary Legacy’, ‘The Naming Ceremony’, amongst others. She has also written radio dramas and novels.

Jos Repertory Theatre was responsible for the premier of same play in 2014 in Jos, Plateau State (and now Abuja). 

The event is taking place at the British Council in Maitama.
