The exit of Lawal Daura and the appointment of Mr Mathew Seiyefa as the Director General of the Department of State Security (DSS) will provide an opportunity for the overhaul and reorganization of our internal security agency.
This is as disclosed by the Northern Youth Network in a statement by its spokesperson Haruna Haladu on Tuesday.
“The appointment couldn’t have come at a better time than now, a thoroughbred professional, a symbol of integrity within and outside the Department of State Security who core values are honesty, hard work and fair of God,” the youth said.
The youth said they believe Saiyefa “will restore the fading glory of the service and supervise a total turnaround of the service to meet up the challenges of the moment.”
“Most urgent of all these is to rid the service of pervasive corruption and undue political meddlesomeness that the immediate past Director General was accused of,” the network said.
They said the service must instil discipline among its personnel and end all acts of impunity that have become synonymous with the service in recent times.
They said President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of Mr Seiyefa in acting capacity is purely based on merit and it has shown how tolerant he is for appointing an Ijaw man to head the service contrary to how his opponents portrayed him as a fanatic who would have nothing to do with Christians heading security agencies considered too sensitive to his success or otherwise as commander-in- chief.
