Seized cash-carrying aircraft causes stir on social media

City Press, a South Africa-based newspaper had reported that the trio, who are already facing investigations, landed in the jet at the Lanseria International Airport, Johannesburg on September 5, in the jet which had taken off from Abuja with the money loaded in three suitcases. The spokesperson for the South African Revenue Service, SARS, Adrian Luckay, confirmed that customs officers became suspicious when the passenger luggage were unloaded and scanned.
The CAN president claimed to have leased the jet to another party, meaning that he (Mr Oritsejafor) had no control over the use of the aircraft. Mr Oritsejafor’s church, the Word of Life Bible Church, also confirmed the ownership in a separate statement on Tuesday September 16, 2014. The church said the pastor only has a “residual interest” in Eagle Air, a company that manages the aircraft. The social media has been abuzz with comments by Nigerians.
X man: I hate to say this, but some people are bigots. When are we going to wake up and see what these people are doing to divide us? It is obvious that buying of arms worth $10 million by a third party is something we should sit well and reason about. Why is he buying it?  For what purpose? Why are we supporting falsehood in the name of tribalism, religious jingoism, and nepotism?
Rufus: Oritsejafor has a lot to answer. If your property is used to launder money, you will be deemed a conspirator. This applies in this case. But let me ask, if all his church members pay tithes and offering for 10 years, will it buy a jet? Why are the parishioners still poor while he is getting wealthier? And why can’t the federal government use one of the 11 jets in its fleet to convey the money?
