Sejong Institute celebrates Hanguel Day

The celebration was in commemoration of invention and proclamation of Hanguel (Korean) alphabets/writing which was invented by Korean King Sejong the great (1418-1450) during Joseon dynasty due to the difficulties Koreans faced in learning and writing Chinese that was dominant then.
The students of Korean basic and intermediate class were each given two pieces of paper to write down their names in Korean, using Korean brush to paste on the class wall and carry one home to appreciate writing in Korean.
Students expressed their happiness with the day, making Ramatu Alhassan to have said: “It is entertaining, fun and a learning process as well as a meeting day new pals.”
Kayode O. Said that “it is amazing,” while Ekene Nebudum enthused: “The day made me to understand how Korea values history and especially the Hanguel style of writing. It was an opportunity for me to really appreciate the alphabets by using them to write my name, the whole thing gave me an opportunity to express myself with Korean art of writing”.
The events was attended by the Director of KCCN, Mr Kwon Yong-ik and the Korean language instructor, Miss Jee Meeyeon.
