The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has begun construction of stalls for traders affected by recent fire outbreak in Potiskum central market.

Kanem Trust reports that the inferno, which occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, left no fewer than 51 shops with items worth millions of naira destroyed.

SEMA Executive Secretary Dr Mohammed said the agency has responded swiftly to the directives of governor Mai Mala Buni coupled with the distress call by the victims to come to their aid.

He said the agency, as a matter of priority, saw the need to bring the victims back into their businesses by constructing temporary stalls to enable them continue providing for their families.

He disclosed that the section occupied by traditional medicine sellers was largely affected by the disaster.

One the affected traders and the chairman traditional medicine sellers association, Mohammed Jibrin, thanked the state government for quick response to their needs.

“We have also received donations from individuals and authorities in both cash and kind and we thanked all of them for the gesture done to us”
