Dr Sunday Agang, the Deputy Provost (Academics) of the seminary, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos that the investiture would hold on December 16.

Also to be honoured are foremost technocrat, Gamaliel Onosode, Gen. Martin-Luther Agwai, retired Vice-Adm Ishaya Ibrahim, retired Air Commodore Habiba Garba and the Rev. Musa Tsakani.

The provost explained that the recipients were considered for the honour because they had demonstrated that an individual could still hold on to his Christian values even while in public office.

“There is an orientation that makes Christians feel that politics is a dirty game. The belief is strengthened by the attitude of some public office holders.

“The awardees have shown that it is possible to be a Christian and be Christ-like even while in office.

“We particularly want to impress on the Nigerian public that leaders who live by example will be recognised and honoured.

“We also want Christian public officers to see themselves as ministers of God and representatives of the people,” he said.

Agang said the seminary had trained no fewer than 3,000 people who were now contributing actively to pastoral and political activities, journalism and other spheres of life.

He announced that the seminary would be graduating its first Ph.D set this year while 332 others would bag various degrees and certificates.

The provost said the seminary was a pace-setter in the African Theological Initiative and was rated among the top eight providers of excellent theological studies on the continent.

According to him, the seminary, established in 1980, will mark its 30th anniversary starting on Wednesday to be followed by an endowment launch for the building of a students’ hostel and a psychology/counselling facility.

Other programmes listed for the anniversary are a commemorative lecture as well as the 27th graduation ceremony and award of degrees.
