Sen. Sulaiman Nazif, don’t be distracted

I was jolted by an unwarranted publication of the talk to our Reps and Senators page, which appeared on page 36 of the Daily Trust newspaper of June 22, 2017. The piece which is written by Mr. Adamu Bello Zaki. In the publication Mr. Bello also suggested Senator Nazif Gamawa, representing Bauchi North to turn a deaf ear to his constituents’ denunciation and grouses.

I thought Mr. Bello would talk about the numbers of our youth employed by Senator Sulaiman Nazif Gamawa since we have myriad jobless youth across his constituency in order to reduce ticking time bomb of youth unemployment across his constituency. It is touching that Senator Nazif Gamawa is the chairman of the Senate committee on employment, labour and productivity and also chairman of the Senate committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), despite that he failed to provide jobs for his constituents. Many youth had casted their votes for Senator Nazif assuming that genuine dividends of democracy will be provided to them.

During his campaign prior to 2015 general elections, Senator Nazif pledged to resume construction of Gambaki abandoned dam project which had been neglected for over a decade. Mr. Bello should remind Senator Nazif of this abandoned dam project because the significance of its completion in this era of unprecedented economic diversification, food security and self-sufficiency in food production couldn’t be overemphasized. Indeed, if this project is completed, it will produce potential for economic growth and multitudinous job creation for our youths.
