Amid growing permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections, women leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara South have thrown their weight behind the call for an Igbomina candidate to emerge as the next senator representing the district.

The group, under the umbrella of APC Women in Politics across the seven local government areas of the senatorial district, made their stance known during a strategic engagement with the National President of Orisun Igbomina, Chief Gbenga Awoyale.

At the meeting, held to align grassroots mobilization efforts, the Kwara South APC Women leader, Hon. Amb. Idowu Olanike Lawal, described the Igbomina senatorial push as a cause founded on justice, equity, and fair representation.

“This is not just a political agitation,” she said. It is a timely and well-grounded call rooted in fairness and the long-standing contributions of the Igbomina people to the stability and growth of the senatorial district.

“We, as women in politics, will not just support it, we will be part of its vanguard”, she said.

Lawal expressed appreciation to Chief Awoyale for his consistency in advocating for the development of Kwara South, especially in amplifying the voices of women.

She also reassured the gathering of the readiness of the women to mobilize effectively in all local government areas to realize the Igbomina aspiration.

In his remarks, Chief Awoyale commended the women for their courageous and principled stand.

He emphasized that the push for Igbomina to occupy the Senate seat in 2027 is not driven by selfish ambition but by a moral imperative to correct historical imbalances in the district.

“We have not been selfish, and we are not being selfish now,” he declared.

Igbomina, he noted, has always supported our brothers in the other two blocs within Kwara South adding that “It is only fair that we are now asking for that same spirit of support and reciprocity.”

Awoyale urged the women and all stakeholders not to be distracted by “empty promises” from those seeking to undermine the cause with patronizing rhetoric.

“Those in Abuja understand that politics is about the grassroots. Nobody will shave another man’s head in his absence”, he noted.

He reaffirmed that Orisun Igbomina, the cultural and political platform he leads, is committed to mobilizing all necessary resources and alliances to ensure that Igbomina produces the next senator from the district.

“But beyond just producing a senator, we will ensure that whoever emerges will serve the larger interest of Kwara South and will not become a figurehead detached from the people,” he added.

The meeting witnessed the presence of key women coordinators from the seven local governments of the senatorial district, highlighting the widespread grassroots momentum behind the Igbomina agenda.

Those present included Mrs. Jatto Sherifat Omolola (Offa), Mrs. Moradeyo Victoria (Irepodun), Mrs. Mohammed Omolara Taibat (Isin), Mrs. Oni Fausat Bola (Oke-Ero), Mrs. Omotosho Rasheedat Ronke (Oyun), Mrs. Taiwo Racheal Rasheedat (Ekiti), and Mrs. Taiwo Jumoke Taofikat (Ifelodun), among others.
