The Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream has expressed its readiness to partner with Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to end to the prevailing fuel scarcity experienced nationwide.
The deputy chairman Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream, Senator Barau I. Jibril stated this when he led the committee members on assessment tour of Kano NNPC deport.
Jibril said the committee had observed with dismay the current magnanimity of the hardship the fuel scarcity had subjected Nigerians into, adding that the committee decided to go out for an assessment tour in order to come up with a lasting solution to the lingering fuel scarcity.
“We are ready to partner with NNPC to end to this problem that has put many Nigerians into unwarranted hardship. We will ensure that we have tabled all the problems and also prepare solutions to it; we have also invited the state minister on petroleum to appear for explanation before the senate. We will not relent until we find a lasting solution to this problem,” Senator Barau said.
In his address Kaduna NNPC area manager Rabo Shu’aibu Muhammad stated that, even though the independent marketers in Kano had been cooperating with NNPC, yet the fuel scarcity persisted due to the problems of obsolete equipment and activities of pipeline vandals.
