The Senate yesterday passed four bills to establish Federal Medical Centres in four states following the consideration of reports by the Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary). 

It also passed a bill to amend the Teaching Hospitals (Reconstitution of Boards, etc.) Act 2004.

The medical centres are proposed to be established in Osogbo, Osun State; Onitsha, Anambra State; Gada, Sokoto State and Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. 

The chairman of the committee, Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe, said the amendment to the Teaching Hospitals Act was to give full legislative recognition to the Federal University Lokoja Teaching Hospital. 

The Senate also passed for second reading, a bill seeking to establish the Police Pension Board. 

The current pension arrangement of the Nigeria Police is under the Pension Commission by virtue of Section 5(1) of the Pension Reform Act 2014.

The sponsor, Senator Elisha Ishaku, flayed the disparities between the pension and gratuity benefits of the police and the military.
